In compliance with the directive of the PPA General Manager and DOTr Undersecretary to participate in the Annual International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) Day, the TMO Balingoan has spearheaded a coastal clean-up activity in collaboration with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), PNP Maritime Group, PCBSI PTMC, Balingoan Porter’s Association, LGU Balingoan, Bureau of Fire Protection, constituents of Barangay Bauk-Bauk, and other port stakeholders along the coastal area of Barangay San Alonzo on September 16, 2023.

 

The activity commenced promptly at 7:00 AM along the shoreline of Barangay Bauk Bauk, adjacent to the Barangay’s Day-Care facility, wherein participants gathered and equipped with sacks, various cleaning tools, and equipment. Before starting the clean-up efforts, they convened for a group photograph and held a preliminary discussion regarding the tasks ahead and the designated cleaning area. Throughout the clean-up operation, participants systematically combed through the coastal expanse of Barangay San Alonzo, collecting 22 substantial sacks filled with a diverse assortment of waste materials. These sacks contained an estimated 25-30 kilograms of refuse, including plastic debris, discarded items, and various forms of litter.

 

After the clean-up activity, the participants were treated to a pamahaw special, which included a combination of flavored sikwati and pandesal, which most of them received.Also, in alignment with the TMO’s steadfast commitment to promoting a green culture, a tree-planting initiative, in coordination with PCBSI PTMC, took place on September 13, 2023. Seventy-seven (77) mahogany and lugas (molave) seedlings were planted in Barangay Kabulakan, Balingoan, as a token of appreciation to His ExcellencyPresident Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. on his 66th birthday celebration.

 

Furthermore, the TMO actively participated in the Gingoog Coastal Clean-up event on September 7, 2023, an integral part of the Misamis Oriental Dive Festival. This initiative underscored our unwavering dedication to environmental sustainability and emphasized our responsibility to safeguard the environment.

 

In conclusion, the TMO exemplifies environmental conservation and is geared toward activities fostering a sustainable and eco-conscious community culture. As we contemplate our current achievements, we take pride in our dedication and enthusiastically look forward to upholding our foundation of success while pushing the boundaries of environmental sustainability.
