[28 Jun 2024] In partnership with the local government agencies in Balingoan led by the MDRRMO, the Terminal Management Office of Balingoan conducted the earthquake drill in compliance with Republic Act No. 10121, also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010. The said drill is part of the national initiative to prepare the community for disasters. The aim of the event aims to strengthen the ability of the attending participants of the government and private sectors in mitigating the disasters and calamities.  PPA TMO Balingoan showed the essence of “safety & preparation” through the showcase of their dedication in preparing for the event and for every potential emergency.

 

Of those that attended the event, present are the different offices and sectors of the government including local DILG, BFP, PNP, PNP-MARPSTA, PCG and LGU-Balingoan, as well as various passengers who are active participated and followed the procedures in an earthquake disaster. Vessel Masters and crew of vessels at berth also participated through the communications drill and the sounding of their respective ship’s horns. Part of the activity is the testing of the proper use of the communications equipment to verify their capacity in delivering/receiving information and coordination between the participants. Additionally, the camaraderie and teamwork of the different participating sectors, especially the ship officials, were showcased through the display of their preparation and communication skills amid calamities. The participants emphasized the importance of regular exercises and drills to ensure the responsiveness to any disaster and calamities that may occur.

 

To sum, the 2nd Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill is a test to the responsiveness of the participants involved, the improvement of the efficiency in mitigating disasters and calamities, and the information dissemination and reminder for every stakeholder that disaster mitigation is a priority for every community.
