The members of the Port & Maritime Management Advisory Council (PMMAC) and the Port Security Advisory Committee (PSAC) headed by Port Manager Isidro Butaslac Jr. convened on 24 September 2024 for their joint meeting via Zoom application, hosted by the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro.
Representatives from the invited agencies namely, Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA-X), Coast Guard District Northern Mindanao (CGDNM), together with the shipping companies and port stakeholders participated in discussions regarding maritime updates, port infrastructure development projects, and operational issues and concerns. Since the meeting was conducted online, breakout rooms were designated for each group to discuss separate matters after the presentation of updates from MARINA, CGDNM, and PPA.
The PMMAC conferred on the upcoming 3Q-2024 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill, incident at the operational area between the CHO and Shipping Lines, briefer on the PPA Port Environmental Code (PPEC) and the new additional regular shipcall for the Port of Cagayan de Oro from CMA CGM Shipping Lines. The additional call is a domestic containerized vessel with route Manila-Cebu-Cagayan de Oro and vice versa. There was also a request from Stella Maris Apostleship of the Sea to conduct/celebrate mass on board the vessel and/or at the offices of the shipping lines which is part of their advocacy.
Additionally, IO 2 Irene A. Wong from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) presented a comprehensive overview of the drug clearing program, detailing drug routes, trends, and prevalent modus operandi in Misamis Oriental. The Port Police Department (PPD) shared statistics on cases handled from January 2023 to August 2024. Recognizing the strategic significance of port areas, which can be targeted by criminal organizations for smuggling operations, the PPD has made it a top priority to ensure these areas remain drug-free zones.
After the breakout sessions, the members of the PMMAC and PSAC convened once again and presented a summary of their discussions. PMO MO/C expressed its sincere gratitude to all the agencies for accepting the invitation and for actively participating in the said meeting.
