The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) was awarded the Parangal ng Bayan for Commitment to Child Labor Reduction at Loiza’s Pavilion in Malaybalay City. This recognition highlights the office’s pivotal role in the PROJECT SPEAK, an international collaboration designed to combat child labor across various provinces in Mindanao.
The SPEAK initiative is a joint effort involving the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), ChildFund International, and EURO Fund. Its primary objective is to significantly reduce, if not eliminate, child labor by addressing its underlying causes and promoting the rights and welfare of children. The project takes a holistic approach, working closely with local communities to create safe, supportive environments where children thrive.
The recognition from the Parangal ng Bayan serves not only as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the PMO MOC but also as a reminder of the critical importance of community involvement in addressing social issues. By actively participating in the PROJECT SPEAK, the PMO MOC demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that children in Mindanao have access to education and opportunities for a brighter future.
As the PMO MOC continues its work in partnership with ChildFund International, DOLE, DepEd, and LGUs, the vision of a child-labor-free Mindanao becomes increasingly attainable. The recognition received on this momentous day is a powerful motivator for ongoing efforts to protect children’s rights and promote their development throughout the region.
