Exactly a year after it was certified by the TUV Rheinland Philippines for the implementation of Integrated Management System (IMS), the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MO/C) has unlocked two-peat achievement of zero (0) non-conformance findings and was re-certified during the first follow-up audit conducted on 20-22 November 2019.
The TUV Rheinland who conducted the three-day IMS external audit noted five (5) positive findings. The re-certification denotes that PMO MO/C has “established and maintains an effective system to ensure compliance with its policy and objectives…that the organization’s management system complies with, adequately maintains and implements the requirements of the standard(s).”
The external auditors commended the PMO’s initiatives for automation such as the ongoing e-vessel logbook project, productivity monitoring and vessels expected to arrive kiosk, Communication Pro System for systemized flow and tracking of incoming and outgoing communications, and further enhancement of the Electronic Customer Satisfaction Survey which are now implemented using electronic tablets. TUV Rheinland also gave kudos to the Corporate Social Responsibility activities of the PMO especially towards the environment: the barangay-wide Clean Up Drive on 22 March 2019, and participation in Earth Hour 2019. Lastly, the new infrastructures: Passenger Terminal Building, Opol Port Development, and Gate Complex, and the in-house production of videos (e.g Simultaneous Maritime Exercises) were found to be all noteworthy.
The IMS integrates the three systems, namely—ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management, ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management and BS OSHAS 18001:2007Occupational Health and Safety into one single management system and the PMO MOC has been implementing it since 10 April 2018. —IMR Lam
