The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) personnel participated in the Awareness Seminar on Hazardous Waste Management, Port Waste Management, Water and Energy Conversation and Oil Spill Response on November 26, 2024 at the GAD Hall of Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) PMO MOC, in collaboration with Department of Environment Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Office X and the Philippine Coast Guard whose representatives served as speakers.
The seminar which was participated by 36 PMO MOC Regular Personnel and 12 Contract of Service (COS) Workers aimed to educate them on best practices for managing environmental challenges in the maritime sector. Key topics included the safe handling of hazardous materials, improving waste management systems to reduce marine pollution, and adopting sustainable practices to conserve water and energy at ports. Speakers also shared insights on strategies for reducing environmental impact, including renewable energy solutions and water-saving initiatives. The seminar also emphasized the importance of preparedness in oil spill response, with demonstrations of advanced containment and cleanup techniques.
The conduct of the seminar was also in view of a continuous and effective implementation of Integrated Management System (IMS); compliance to Republic Act (RA) 6969, RA 9003, PPA’s Orange Book on Energy and Power Conservation; Port Waste Management; Green Port Award System (GPAS) initiatives; and pursuant to 2024 National Clean Air Month and Environmental Awareness Month.
The PPA PMO MOC continuously affirms its commitment to green initiatives and environmentally responsible practices for a more sustainable and better future.
