Cagayan de Oro- The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) joins MARINA and PCG for the celebration of the National Seafarer’s Day with the theme, “Navigating the Future: Safety First!” which highlighted the importance of safety in maritime navigation and honored the vital contributions of seafarers to the global economy today, June 25, 2024, at the PTB Grounds and at SM CDO Uptown.

The festivities began early in the morning with dressing of ships and the ceremonial blowing of horns at the Port of Cagayan de Oro. This symbolized the unity and strength of the maritime community. Following this, a solemn Floral Offering and prayer ceremony were held to honor and remember the deceased seafarers who dedicated their lives to the sea. The event at the port was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by seafarers and the need for continued commitment to their safety and welfare.

During the second part of the celebration, participants moved to SM Uptown CDO Activity Hall for the continuation of the program. Key figures in the maritime industry attended, including representatives from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and the Philippine Coast Guard, who underscored their support for seafarers and reiterated the significance of safety in maritime operations.

The day culminated with closing remarks by Port Manager Isidro Butaslac Jr. He emphasized the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in the maritime industry to ensure the safety and well-being of seafarers. His speech resonated with the theme of the day, as he highlighted the continued support for the seafarers in their contributions in making the maritime sector a safer workplace.

The celebration of National Seafarer’s Day in Cagayan de Oro was a fitting tribute to the hard work and dedication of seafarers, reinforcing the community’s commitment to navigating the future with safety as a paramount concern.
