The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Regional Office X successfully held the 4th MARINA Caravan on February 18, 2025, with the theme “Ligtas Byaheng Dagat,” in Camiguin. This event was a part of the ongoing Maritime Safety Culture Awareness Campaign aimed at fostering a culture of safety on the seas and ensuring that maritime transport remains secure and accessible to all.
The caravan, which was well-attended by passengers, local government representatives, and stakeholders from various maritime sectors, took place in collaboration with the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) TMO Camiguin, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) – Camiguin, shipping lines, and other maritime entities.
The objective of the event was to raise awareness about maritime safety rules and regulations, ensuring the public is better informed of their rights when traveling by sea. A key focus of the caravan was making maritime safety inclusive, particularly for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Information was shared about the rights of passengers, with special emphasis on ensuring that PWDs can travel safely and with ease.
The event featured a variety of activities designed to engage both the public and maritime industry stakeholders in meaningful discussions on safety at sea. The activities included a festive parade, a symposium, and interactive sessions, which provided attendees with valuable insights into maritime safety protocols and regulations.
The event underscored the importance of collaboration between government agencies, maritime associations, and the private sector in promoting a culture of maritime safety. The participation of various stakeholders was a testament to the collective commitment to improving maritime safety standards and ensuring the protection of passengers.
