The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro City (PMO MOC), in collaboration with various partner agencies, proudly participated in the Inter-Agency Operability and Capability Simulation Exercise (SIMEX) 2024, held at Macajalar Bay. This event served as the centerpiece of the Maritime Week 2023 celebrations, showcasing the exceptional readiness and capability of maritime stakeholders in the region.

Kicking off promptly at 8:00 a.m., SIMEX 2024 was designed to demonstrate the collaborative efforts of different agencies in responding to maritime threats and emergencies. The exercise unfolded in a series of meticulously planned scenarios that tested the limits of operational readiness among participating units, providing invaluable insights into their capacity to handle challenging situations.

The day’s events began with a simulated sea-jacking scenario, a high-stakes situation that required a rapid response from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel. Their coordinated efforts highlighted the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration, a critical aspect of maritime security. Following the initial response, the exercise transitioned into a boarding procedure, further emphasizing tactical preparedness.

As the simulation progressed, participants faced increasingly complex challenges, including a hostage-taking situation, bomb threat response, search and rescue operations, and firefighting exercises. Each scenario was carefully crafted to simulate real-world emergencies, enabling stakeholders to refine their skills and enhance their response strategies.

The event culminated in a spectacular sea parade, a grand display of unity and maritime prowess that brought all participating units together. This finale not only highlighted the accomplishments of the day but also reinforced the commitment of maritime agencies to work collaboratively for safety and security at sea.

The success of SIMEX 2024 underscores the dedication of the PMO MOC and its partners in fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience in the maritime sector. As they continue to collaborate on future exercises, the commitment to safeguarding maritime interests remains steadfast, paving the way for a more secure and coordinated approach to maritime safety in the region.
