In compliance with continuing implementation of Integrated Management System, Green Port Award System, Republic Act No. 9275 or the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004 and conditions under the Wastewater Discharge Permit issued by the Environmental Management Bureau-Department of Environment and Natural Resources (EMB-DENR), the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MO/C) conducted an annual sludge disposal management activity on October 2-4, 2024. The  activity was facilitated by the PMO MO/C’s Environmental specialist and executed by three personnel from a DENR-recognized environmental service provider at the Septic Systems located at the PMO-MO/C’s premises namely: Access Control Building, PPD Office, PM’s Amenity, Powerhouse, PMO Building 2, ABCU, Temporary Facility 1, Temporary Facility 2, Passenger Terminal Building- Septic Tank 1, and Passenger Terminal Building- Septic Tank 2.

Sewage desludging is important because it prevents system failures, reduces health hazards, and protects the environment. By removing accumulated sludge, it ensures efficient wastewater treatment, prevents blockages, and minimizes the risk of contamination to surrounding water bodies. Moreover, the Sewage Desludging is under Republic Act (RA) No. 9275 or the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004, wherein the law ensures the safeguarding of various water resources against pollution brought about by commercial, industrial, and agricultural activities. Also, the said conduct of effluent monitoring is a requirement of the Wastewater Discharge Permit issued by the EMB– DENR.
Regular Sewage Desludging is one of the crucial components of effective environmental management and sustainability practices, thus, the Port of Cagayan de Oro annually conducts the said Sewage Desludging activity to guarantee and maintain the quality of discharged water, safeguarding the environment, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
