Cagayan de Oro City | The Philippine Ports Authority Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PPA PMO MOC) conducted its Annual Coastal Water Test on 04 December 2023 at the two areas of the Port, together with the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources’ (DENR) recognized Aeronics Laboratory Technician and PMO MOC’s personnel: Ms. Core Suan, Environmental Specialist and Mr. Arnel Taqueban, Civil Security Officer. The Temperature, pH, BOD, TSS, Nitrate, Oil and Grease were among the parameters that were tested.
The Annual Coastal Water Test seeks to adequately manage, address, and mitigate the threats to and causes of the degradation of the marine and coastal ecosystems. This is also in compliance with the continuous and effective implementation of the Integrated Management System (IMS), Philippine Clean Water Act (Republic Act No. 9275) and Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) Requirements.
Republic Act No. 9275, also referred to as the Philippine Clean Water Act, was passed with the intention of protecting the nation’s waterways from pollution originating from land-based sources and of making it illegal to pollute them. While, the ECC Requirements delineate the requisite commitments made by the project’s proponents in order to ensure compliance with current environmental regulations or to operate within best environmental practices that are not currently covered by existing law.
The PMO MOC remains committed in its duty to serve and help protect and preserve the marine and coastal environment.
