In observance of Fire Prevention Month, PMO Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro conducted a fire drill on 25 March 2024 at the PMO Admin Building 1 and Terminal Management Offices. This year’s theme, “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa” emphasizes the significance of unity and collaboration among participants while thoroughly evaluating the effectiveness of the emergency response procedure during a fire incident. A strong commitment to teamwork is important to ensure everyone’s safety.
The drill scenario is a building-on-fire incident after experiencing a strong earthquake in the vicinity resulting in an electrical short circuit causing the ignition of a fire. The first responder, the lobby security guard, was able to locate and verify the fire incident on the 3rd floor of the building after the fire alarm was activated and immediately reported the fire incident to PMO Command Center to notify the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Station 5 and activation of the PMO Fire Brigade. The first responder was able to manage the fire using a fire extinguisher as the PMO Fire Brigade Team and BFP personnel arrived at the scene to put out and declare “fire out.” The PMO was able to utilize its firefighting assets and perform its security protocols during emergencies in this drill that was participated by 39 personnel, including port users, who were already evacuated because of the strong earthquake.
BFP Station 5 personnel commended the PMO for its observance of this year’s Fire Prevention Month which was highlighted by the functionality of the building alarm system, firefighting assets, and communication protocols. Although there is a need to improve on the conduct of headcount, overall BFP gave the conduct of the drill very satisfactory and lauded its participation.
