Cagayan de Oro City – The Philippine Ports Authority Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro personnel participated in the 2024 National Maritime Week’s “Nationwide Coastal Clean-up Drive,” together with the members of the Maritime Industry today, 28 September 2024, at the Coastal Road along Barangay Lapasan and Gusa of this city.
The said activity was spearheaded by the Philippine Coast Guard and in line with the celebration of the 2024 National Maritime Week with this year’s theme, “Marinong Filipino: Ligtas na Paglalayag.”
The coastal clean-up campaign benefits local fisheries by enhancing marine ecosystems, which can boost fish population and the overall ocean health, benefiting seafarers. Additionally, safer navigation and less risks for maritime activities are encouraged by cleaner coastlines. Also, it fosters community awareness and support for sustainable practices that directly impact seafarers’ livelihood.
The PMO MOC is unwavering in its resolve to consistently uphold and implement measures aimed at preserving and safeguarding our coasts and marine environment. Safeguarding the future of future generations is just as important as protecting marine life when it comes to safeguarding the ocean.
