Joining the synergy for the bid for energy secure and empowered Mindanao, the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MO/C) participated in the Mindanao Power Summit 2024 on 30 May 2024 held in Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Iligan City.

 

With the long-term goal of providing secure, reliable, economically viable, clean and sustainable energy for Mindanao, the Summit served as a platform for knowledge-sharing and dialogue to address critical issues and concerns confronting the energy and power sector, and a venue for strengthening the collaboration among all stakeholders towards improving the power and energy infrastructure planning and unlocking opportunities and energy solutions.

 

The PMO MO/C represented by Engineering Services Division Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Engr. Antonio M. Torcino Jr. and Ms. Irish Maika R. Lam of the Office of the Port Manager, joined the diverse mix of participants from the energy/power sector, Local Government Units, government agencies, academic institutions, civil society groups, private sector, and media partners. The activity was organized by Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation of Iligan, Inc.

 

The event was also specially graced by Sen. Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian, the Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Energy as the Keynote Speaker who presented the accomplishments and ongoing legislative efforts for the energy sector such as the Renewable Energy Act, and power statistics in Mindanao. The Philippine Energy Situationer and Plan 2020-2040, Mindanao Supply-Demand Situation 2030, 2040, 2050, among other relevant reports, were presented by the Department of Energy during the Summit.

 

This significant endeavor underscored innovation and promotion of renewable energy in order to provide energy and power to communities without harming the environment. Thus, concerned energy agencies are spearheading various projects and programs that facilitate investments in Renewable Energy. In Mindanao, sources of power are coal, hydropower, oil, geothermal, and solar power.

 

The Consulate Generals of Malaysia, China, and Japan expressed their message of support to this remarkable undertaking.
