Relief Assistance for Surigao

The PPA Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro in partnership with the 1001st Auxiliary Squadron organized relief operations to provide immediate assistance to the victims of the onslaught of Super Typhoon “Odette” in Surigao.   The first batch of relief goods were transported to the city on December 19, 2021.  Another batch was sent on December 24, 2021, with donations from PMO Misamis Occidental/Ozamis and PMO Lanao del Norte/Iligan.  Other PMOs are still working together to send the third batch of relief goods to Surigao.

Super Typhoon “Odette” is the strongest storm that hit the Philippines in 2021.  It started with heavy rains in the northern part of Mindanao, flooding parts of Cagayan de Oro, Camiguin, and Misamis Oriental, among others. The storm strengthened from Category 1 to 5 within 24 hours, severely hitting the southeastern part of the country, especially Surigao and Siargao Island.  The typhoon caused immense damage to these islands, which now needs major rehabilitation, and to the residents in the area who are in dire need of basic provisions.
