In addition to its efforts in ensuring safe, secure, and convenient transportation for passengers, the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro activated its Operation Plan Biyaheng Ayos: Pasko and New Year 2023 at the Ports of Cagayan de Oro, Balingoan, Benoni, and Balbagon which will run from 16 December 2022 until 05 January 2023.
The said operational plan aims to facilitate passengers during the holiday season. As the volume of the seagoing public increases, the PMO has already implemented heightened security alert in all ports under its jurisdiction. Volunteers, including those from its partner agencies such as the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Coast Guard District of Northern Mindanao (CGDNM), and 1001st Auxiliary Squadron (PCGA), among others are stationed at the Malasakit Helpdesks in the Passenger Terminal Buildings to ensure immediate response to any concerns/issues that may arise.
Additionally, the PMO has taken the necessary precautions in cases of travel suspensions due to unfavorable weather conditions. As of date, only the Port of Balbagon cancelled its trip en route to Jagna, Bohol scheduled on 28 December 2022 as advised by the Philippine Coast Guard stationed in Camiguin due to the rough sea condition in Bohol (per Coast Guard Station Camiguin Sea Travel Advisory 1222-001). The travel suspension was lifted early morning of 29 December 2022 upon the issuance of Coast Guard Station Camiguin Sea Travel Advisory 1222-002.
Despite the interruptions caused by unfavorable weather conditions, no untoward maritime incidents occurred at the ports of PMO MO/C within the reported period.-BCAcedera
