In line with the implementation of Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Pasko 2024 starting 20 Dec 2024, The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) intensified security measures to ensure public safety and security. In preparation of the surge in passenger volume during Oplan Byaheng Ayos: Pasko 2024, PMO MOC has taken proactive measures to ensure the smooth flow of services.
Under the leadership of Acting Port Manager Fernando B. Mapalo Jr, various activities were undertaken to ensure the safety of passengers and the smooth operation of the terminals during the long weekend:
1. PMO MOC headed by Acting Port Manager Fernando B. Mapalo Jr., conducted a series of terminal inspections in Ports under its administrative jurisdiction to assess the readiness of its terminals for the OPLAN Biyaheng Ayos: PASKO 2024. The said inspections were part of the PMO’s continuing efforts to ensure the safety, security, and convenience of the seagoing public. APM Mapalo surveyed the condition of the ports’ facilities, amenities, equipment, and manpower complement to ensure compliance with the relevant safety and security regulations, identify any issues that may affect efficient flow of port operations, and to implement measures to address the same. With the expected influx of passengers/travelers during Pasko 2023, the Ports of Balingoan, Benoni, Balbagon, and Guinsiliban are gearing up to ensure a safe, smooth, and convenient movement of people and goods to and from the island.
2. APM Mapalo together with the OPLAN BYAHENG AYOS: PASKO ‘’2024’’ Task Force conducted a meeting on December 17, 2024, to discuss procedures and guidelines to ensure facilities, manpower, supplies, and equipment are readily available to provide immediate assistance and convenience of the sea-going passengers. Some of these preparatory actions include the functionality of charging stations, provide adequate police presence with partner agencies throughout the season, secure clean drinking water & other necessary food items, and closely monitor the compliance of all Oplan 2024 activities. Inspections were then accomplished within the Passenger Terminal Complex (PTC) of Cagayan de Oro City.
3. Port police and security personnel, in collaboration with the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, Philippine National Police, and K-9 units, were deployed across all terminal ports.
4. The activation of Malasakit Helpdesks – OPLAN BIYAHENG AYOS: PASKO 2024 ensured that dedicated personnel were readily available to assist passengers.
5. Coordination with Cargo Handling and Port Terminal Operators: Strict security measures inside and outside the terminals were coordinated with Cargo Handling and Port Terminal Operators.
6. Sufficient Supplies: Adequate supplies of medical, janitorial, and other necessities were ensured, regularly provided to the terminals to guarantee the health and safety of departing passengers.
7. Information Dissemination: Tarpaulins containing essential information for passengers were displayed prominently to guide individuals arriving at the terminals. It also provided the list of prohibited items as per Memorandum Circular-02 Series of 2015.
8. Full Manning Complement: In adherence to the directive from PPA General Manager Jay Santiago, a full manning complement was implemented at all terminals.
9. Free PPA Lugaw and snacks for stranded Passengers.
