In line with the implementation of Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Pasko 2023 starting 15 Dec 2023, The Port Management of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) intensified security measures to ensure public safety and security. In preparation of the surge in passenger volume during Oplan Byaheng Ayos: Pasko 2023, PMO MOC has taken proactive measures to ensure the smooth flow of services.

Under the leadership of Port Manager Isidro V. Butaslac, various activities were undertaken to ensure the safety of passengers and the smooth operation of the terminals during the long weekend:

 

1.Additional instructions were cascaded among security personnel during Troop Information and Education session (guard mounting) on December 15, 2023, reminding them to be always extra vigilant and alert and to conduct themselves with integrity.

 

  1. On December 15, 2023, an unannounced security drill was conducted at the main gate for the interdiction of prohibited items to test the security guards’ attentiveness and compliance with standard protocols. The drill yielded positive results with the interception of bomb components found inside the U-box of an incoming motorcycle and the security guards following the corresponding reporting and verification protocols.

 

  1. PMO MOC headed by Port Manager Isidro V. Butaslac Jr., conducted a terminal inspection in Ports under its administrative jurisdiction on December 19-20, 2023, to assess the readiness of its terminals for the OPLAN Biyaheng Ayos: PASKO 2023. The said inspections were part of the PMO’s continuing efforts to ensure the safety, security, and convenience of the seagoing public. The PMO MO/C inspection team surveyed the condition of the ports’ facilities, amenities, equipment, and manpower complement to ensure compliance with the relevant safety and security regulations, identify any issues that may affect efficient flow of port operations, and to implement measures to address the same. With the expected influx of passengers/travelers during Pasko 2023, the Ports of Balingoan, Benoni, Balbagon, and Guinsiliban are gearing up to ensure a safe, smooth, and convenient movement of people and goods to and from the island.

 

4.Port police and security personnel, in collaboration with the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, Philippine National Police, and K-9 units, were deployed across all terminal ports.

 

5.The activation of Malasakit Helpdesks – OPLAN BIYAHENG AYOS: PASKO 2023 ensured that dedicated personnel were readily available to assist passengers.

 

6.Coordination with Cargo Handling and Port Terminal Operators: Strict security measures inside and outside the terminals were coordinated with Cargo Handling and Port Terminal Operators.

 

7.Sufficient Supplies: Adequate supplies of medical, janitorial, and other necessities were ensured, regularly provided to the terminals to guarantee the health and safety of departing passengers.

 

8.Information Dissemination: Tarpaulins containing essential information for passengers were displayed prominently to guide individuals arriving at the terminals. It also provided the list of prohibited items as per Memorandum Circular-02 Series of 2015.

 

9.Full Manning Complement: In adherence to the directive from PPA General Manager Jay Santiago, a full manning complement was implemented at all terminals.

 

  1. Free PPA Lugaw and snacks for stranded Passengers.
