The MV Samal marked a significant milestone as it set sail on its maiden voyage from Nansha, China, to the Port of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines, on Sunday, 19 January 2025. The vessel, carrying 291 containers for discharge, arrived at the Pilot Station at 16:00H and was docked and secured by 16:45H. It is scheduled to depart the following day, Monday, 20 January 2025, at 12:00H, with 118 containers to be loaded for its next destination.
Built in 2023, the MV Samal is a modern container vessel sailing under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. The ship boasts a total length overall of 172.00 meters and a gross tonnage of 18,680, showcasing its capacity to support international trade efficiently.
During its call to the Port of Cagayan de Oro, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) PMO MOC, represented by PMO’s operations personnel along with the representative from CHO, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the vessel’s master, Grigorii Grabar. This token of gratitude recognized the MV Samal’s choice of the port as its first Philippine destination, aligning with the PPA’s mission of fostering global-level port services and contributing to regional and national economic growth.
The PPA PMO MOC reaffirms its commitment to welcoming foreign vessels and strengthening the Philippines’ role in global trade and connectivity. As the MV Samal continues its journey, its visit to the Port of Cagayan de Oro highlights the port’s strategic importance as a hub for international shipping.
