The Philippine Ports Authority – Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental / Cagayan de Oro City (PPA PMO MOC) has participated globally in the Women’s Month Celebration by hosting an extensive educational and engaging event in the National Women’s Month Celebration, “Empowering Gender Equality: A Symposium on Gender And Development.” This inclusive and diverse gathering brought together 53 organic and inorganic personnel from the PMO Baseport and Terminal Management Offices (TMOs) of Camiguin, Balingoan, and Opol, fostering a harmonious environment for a wide array of GAD-related developmental aspects on March 22, 2024.
As patterned from the theme, “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas; Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, patutunayan!”, the variety of topics for the Symposium were deliberated, which covered Professionalism, Commitment to Public Service and Republic Act 10364 – Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act by Atty. Ruby T. Malanog, Deputy City Prosecutor of Department Of Justice (DOJ) – Region 10, and Atty. Chemene L. Nacua, Agent V of National Bureau of Investigation – Region 10; importation/exportation of agricultural products and significance of land by Mr. Bammy M. Jimena, DARPO of Department of Agrarian Reform; shipment of goods by Ms. Grace Camilo, Port Shipper in Cagayan de Oro City; and Health, Nutrition, and Wellness by Ms. Lizelle L. Bete, Nutrition Officer 2 of National Nutrition Council, and Ms. Lyle Justin Laid, Nutrilite Health and Wellness Consultant of Amway Philippines.
The Symposium for all genders of employees was distinctly aimed at equal and equitable opportunities, free from gender biases, to empower everyone’s potential and capabilities to target national growth and development through awareness of enhancing access to public services, advocating for well-balanced respect of fundamental freedoms and social protection, focusing on health care, and strengthening individual long-term financial plans.
Highlighted were the collaborative and responsive efforts of the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GADFPS) and its GAD Team in addressing gender gaps, and upholding the Magna Carta of Women. Evident in the production and operation management of the various Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials; the tarpaulins, postcards, pamphlets, and audio USBs for the client-focused and organization-focused programs, which include all the port stakeholders: the passengers, shipping companies, Oroport Cargo Handling Services, Inc., and PMO human resources.
