Affording utmost comfort and convenience to the seagoing passengers, fast and fiber-powered Wi-Fi service was installed in the new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) of the Port of Cagayan de Oro which they can access and use for free.
The service provider, the PLDT and its wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc., had launched the “Smart WiFi” on 10 January 2020 in the new PTB together with the PMO MO/C personnel led by Port Manager Isidro V. Butaslac Jr. The launching was graced by Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar S. Moreno.
The City Mayor thanked the service provider and the PMO for the provision of the free Wi-Fi connection to the passengers, as he emphasized that “connectivity” is important nowadays. He cited that passengers can stay “connected” with their families and friends especially through social media, and others can still work on their office tasks online.
The WiFi has a speed of 300 Mbps, three times faster than the previous version installed in the Temporary Facility. This Smart WiFi can cater to up to 5,000 simultaneous users.
To further enhance passengers’ mobile capability, Smart Communications also provided free charging stations for mobile phones and electronic gadgets. — by IMR Lam
