On March 22, 2024, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, accompanied by key DOTr officials, visited Camiguin to carry out a thorough inspection of the island’s airport and port facilities. The delegation included Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Santiago, Usec. Atty. Giovanni Lopez, Usec. Capt. Jim Sydiongco, DDGA Atty. Danjun Lucas, Asec. Michelle De Vera, COS Allan Yap, and Director Zhane Ramos-Liwanag.

The delegation inspected three significant infrastructure projects: the Cruise Ship Berth at the Port of Balbagon and the Light Craft Landing and Port Operations Building at the Port of Benoni. These projects are pivotal for enhancing the region’s maritime capabilities and boosting tourism and trade in Camiguin. The inspection underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure and ensuring that facilities adhere to international safety and operational standards.

This visit is part of a broader initiative aimed at modernizing the country’s transportation network.The inspection of Camiguin’s transportation hubs is expected to pave the way for further developments in port and airport operations, ensuring that the facilities are not only safe and functional but also capable of meeting the increasing demands of modern travel and commerce.
