The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro City (PMO MOC) in collaboration with various partner agencies, participated in the Inter-Agency Operability and Capability Simulation Exercise (SIMEX) 2023 on September 27, 2023, at Macajalar Bay in Cagayan de Oro City.

 

This event was the centerpiece of the Maritime Week 2023 celebration and showcased the remarkable capacity and preparedness of various maritime stakeholders. The scenarios presented during the simulation provided invaluable insights into their ability to respond to challenging situations. This event brings together a diverse array of participants, including the MARINA 10, Philippine Coast Guard, PNP Maritime Group, PNP Station 5, PNP EOD/SWAT, PNP SOCO, Army K9, EOD Army, Bureau of Customs, CDRRMO, Oroport Cargo Handling Services Inc, Philippine Navy, Task Force Oro, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp, Bureau of Fire Protection, Cagayan Harbor Pilots, Inc, Harbor Star Shipping Services Inc, Malayan Towage and Salvage Corp, Oceanic Container Lines, Capitol University, Northern Mindanao Medical Center, Department Of Health 10, Local Matters Photography, LGU Macabalan, and Venus Marine Salvage Inc. Such a broad representation showcases the dedication and commitment of these organizations to the safety and security of maritime activities in the region.

 

The exercise commenced promptly at 7:00 a.m. with a simulated bomb threat at the Cagayan de Oro City Passenger Terminal Building. This initial challenge set the stage for the day’s events, testing the swift response of our first responders. Subsequently, a high-stakes seajacking scenario unfolded, drawing the participation of our dedicated PCG-PNP-AFP personnel and other collaborating agencies, including the PPA Port Police. Their coordinated response was a testament to their professionalism and commitment.

 

The simulation seamlessly transitioned into a search and rescue operation, highlighting their proficiency in handling critical situations. Following this, a firefighting exercise demonstrated their ability to tackle maritime emergencies with precision. The event concluded with an oil spill response exercise, underlining our shared commitment to safeguarding our environment and waters.

 

The last part and finale of the morning’s affair was the SEA PARADE, a spectacular showcase of unity and maritime prowess. All units involved in the well-coordinated simulation exercise came together to participate in this grand display, providing a visually stunning and inspiring conclusion to the event.
