In view of the progressive port development and in anticipation of the increasing volume of cargoes, the Oroport Cargo Handling Services Inc. acquired two (2) additional units of rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes, an initiative beyond their Business Plan which further beefed up the container cargo handling capability the Port of Cagayan de Oro.
Delivered by MV Yuan Jian on 03 November 2019, the new RTGs have higher capacity than the existing ones at the Port. Each has a capacity of 41.6 metric tons (MT) and can move 18 boxes per hour, compared to 30.5 tons and 15 boxes per hour capacity of the existing units.
Oroport expects improvement in productivity with the addition of the said cargo handling equipment. Additionally, they may acquire additional cargo handling equipment in the future depending on what the market needs, according to their Corporate Planning Manager, Mr. Ramon Dadole.
To date, the Port has a total of 11 RTGs and 4 rail-mounted gantry cranes. — by IMR Lam
