Cagayan de Oro- The Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) delegation, headed by their Director General, Secretary Ernesto V. Perez, and the President of the Austal Philippines Mr, Wayne Murray, embarked on a learning visit and guided tour of the Port of Cagayan de Oro on October 14, 2023. This visit was part of a broader initiative to understand the intricacies of port operations and appreciate the crucial role that ports play in facilitating trade and logistics.

The Port visit was the culmination of a series of events hosted by ARTA to promote ease of doing business and foster growth in the logistics sector. Before the port visit, a two-day event was held in Limketkai Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro, comprising the Ease of Doing Business (EODB) Summit and a Logistics Forum on October 12-13, 2023. It provided a platform for discussing and emphasizing the significance of facilitating business processes in the logistics industry.

Representing PMO MOC during the 2-day event were Port Manager Isidro Butaslac and Port Services Division Manager Ruby Maria Gumapon. Furthermore, the event was graced by the presence of representatives from the Head Office, including Cordelia Sidon and Jean V. Villasenor.

The ARTA delegation’s visit to the Port of Cagayan de Oro presented an excellent opportunity for them to explore the facilities and infrastructure that underpin the port’s efficient operations. Understanding the intricacies of a functioning port is vital for regulatory authorities, as it allows them to appreciate the complexities involved in ensuring that trade and logistics flow seamlessly.

The learning visit and Logistics Forum conducted by the ARTA delegation in the Port of Cagayan de Oro were significant steps toward promoting and enhancing the logistics sector in the Philippines. By exploring port operations, understanding regulatory challenges, and fostering partnerships, this event exemplified the government’s commitment to making the country a logistics hub. Public and private sector collaboration, innovation, and capacity building will be instrumental in achieving this goal, ensuring that the Philippines remains a key player in the global trade arena.
