In collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF) and Basic Environmental Systems and Technologies, Inc., port users, stakeholders, and personnel of the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro continue to take part in the Trash to Cashback Program for the project Clean Ports, Clean Oceans: Improving Port Waste Management in the Philippines.
The said program was launched back in October of last year. Since then, port users and stakeholders have been depositing their wastes such as plastic/glass bottles, scratch papers, cardboard boxes, and other unused materials at the BeST Booth placed outside the Amenity Building of the Port of Cagayan de Oro. A total of 458.97 kilograms of trash were collected from November 2022 – January 2023 in exchange for environmental points (EP). Each EP is equivalent to Php1, which may be used to transact with the BeST partners such as Lazada PH, Smart, and BDO, among others.
This program aims to engage the public in the proper disposal of wastes and help preserve the environment. It was launched as part of the Strategic Action Plan for the Clean Ports, Clean Oceans: Improving Port Waste Management in the Philippines project.-BCAcedera
