Flags in the Port of Cagayan de Oro and Terminal Management Office of Balingoan and Camiguin were lowered at half-staff after the usual Monday flag raising ceremony on 13 April 2020, as the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro joins the Philippine Ports Authority community in remembering and honoring its former PPA General Manager, Commodore Carlos L. Agustin, who passed away on Sunday night, at 82.
As the world gives thanks to the frontline personnel for their indefatigable service against the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, the PMO likewise thanks the late GM for his valuable service to the Authority, who, apart from being both Coast Guard Commandant and PPA head, simultaneously worked in the frontline as the Philippine representative to the Board of Governors of the World Maritime University in Malmo, Sweden during his term in PPA. For his service in the Authority (1993-1998), he was awarded with the Presidential Merit Medal in 1998.
Former GM Agustin is the founding and current Chairperson and President of the Maritime League and Editorial Board Chairperson. He is also the publisher of its publication, The Maritime Review.-IMR Lam
