To bolster their capabilities to respond to fire-related emergencies in ports and to provide additional support to the City’s fire response, the Oroport Cargo Handling Services Inc. recently acquired one (1) fire truck unit in the Port of Cagayan de Oro.
The new fire truck is not part of the cargo handling equipment complement but rather a community service initiative of Oroport. The Oroport’s management shall be tying up the services and availability of their firefighting team with other volunteer firefighting organizations in Cagayan de Oro City and neighboring places.
The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro that has been putting premium on emergency response in ports through the conduct of various emergency drills (e.g. fire drills, earthquake drills, and simulation exercises), thanked Oroport for the said initiative. The fire truck is a great addition to the PMO’s efforts to prevent, mitigate, and contain any fire incident within the port and its vicinity.
In line with the acquisition of a fire truck, the PMO will be updating its Emergency Response Team (ERT) Plan which will necessitate the conduct of more fire drills using all fire prevention equipment/lorries available, starting on the month of March which is dubbed as, “Fire Prevention Month.” — by IMR Lam
