Cagayan de Oro City (Baseport) – The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) personnel participated an Awareness Seminar on the Proper Handling of Stray Animals in the Port and the Anti-Rabies Act on December 12, 2024 at the GAD Hall of the said office. The event was organized in collaboration with Dr. Norman Enriquez and Dr. Rod Grayson Baylo, who served as resource speakers from the City Veterinary Office.

The seminar, which was also conducted last year, was attended by 45 personnel from the PMO MOC and aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of RA 9824 (Anti-Rabies Act of 2007) and RA 8485 (Animal Welfare Act of 1998). Key topics included impounding, field control, and disposition of unregistered stray and unvaccinated dogs, effective methods of capturing and containing stray animals, proper care and shelter, as well as preventive measures to avoid the spread of diseases such as rabies.

Simultaneously, a free anti-rabies vaccination drive was conducted at the Building 2 grounds for the cats and dogs owned by PMO MOC personnel. This initiative, aimed at preventing rabies in the community, successfully vaccinated a total of seven (7) pets. The vaccination drive was part of the PMO MOC’s ongoing commitment to public health, ensuring the well-being of animals and reducing the risks posed by rabies.

Through these initiatives, PMO MOC continues to demonstrate its dedication to community welfare, safety, and compliance with the Integrated Management System and the Dog Free Zone Program, promoting a healthier and safer environment for all.
