Camiguin, Philippines – November 1, 2024 – Camiguin opened its shores today to Coral Geographer, marking the island’s first international ship arrival of the year. With approximately 52 tourists and 40 crew members aboard, the Coral Geographer brought excitement and energy to Camiguin.
The tourists, primarily from Australia, received a vibrant welcome as they disembarked to the lively beats of a street dance inspired by Camiguin’s annual Lanzones Festival, celebrated just last week. The performance reflected the warmth and rich cultural heritage of the island, creating a festive atmosphere that made the tourists feel instantly connected to the local community.
The daylong itinerary for the Coral Geographer’s guests included a community immersion, giving them an authentic taste of local life, along with a visit to the breathtaking Katibawasan Falls. The trip continued with water activities at Mantigue Island, where the visitors enjoyed snorkeling, swimming, and exploring the island’s pristine environment. These activities showcased Camiguin’s natural wonders and gave visitors an unforgettable experience of its beauty and hospitality.
This visit follows Camiguin’s previous encounters with international cruise liners, including the M/S Caledonian Sky in 2016 and the M/V Silver Discoverer in 2018, each visit contributing to the island’s reputation as a niche but attractive destination for global travelers.
Scheduled to depart at 6:30 p.m. for its next stop in Tagbilaran, Bohol, the Coral Geographer’s short visit nevertheless left a positive mark on Camiguin’s tourism sector. Local officials and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) are optimistic about the potential for more cruise arrivals, especially once the dedicated cruise ship berth at the Port of Balbagon is completed in two years. This development is anticipated to attract more cruise lines to Camiguin, bolstering the island’s profile as a premier cruise destination.
As Camiguin continues to develop its tourism infrastructure, its natural and cultural offerings promise to make it an increasingly popular destination among international cruise visitors.
