In celebration of the 2024 Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo), the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Port Management Office of Cagayan de Oro/Misamis Oriental has organized an exciting Port Educational Tour for 25 senior high school students in Macabalan National Highschool on September 26, 2024

This initiative is guided by Proclamation No. 316, s. 2017 which aims to enhance awareness and appreciation of the Philippines’ rich maritime heritage and its vast potential. The program is designed to highlight the essential role that ports play in the economy, culture, and environmental sustainability of the nation.

The event commenced with an opening prayer, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, setting a respectful tone for the occasion. Port Services Division Manager Ruby Maria O. Gumapon then delivered a warm welcome to the students, emphasizing the significance of the maritime sector in national development.

Next, environmental specialist Core D. Suan provided an engaging presentation on environmental stewardship and sustainability in maritime operations. This presentation aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and awareness in the students regarding the impact of maritime activities on the environment.

After the informative sessions, the students eagerly boarded the Trans Asia Vessel, where they could explore and observe various aspects of ship operations. This hands-on experience not only enriched their understanding of maritime logistics but also fostered a connection to the country’s maritime culture.
