PORT OF BALINGOAN — The members of the Port and Maritime Management Advisory Council (PMMAC) and Port Security Advisory Committee (PSAC) convened last 12 September 2024 afternoon for the 3rd Quarter CY 2024 Joint Meeting to discuss important concerns and planning initiatives such as the port project updates, upcoming celebrations/activities and operational concerns, to wit:
Port Project Updates
A detailed presentation was presented regarding the latest developments of ongoing projects of the port. Engr. Yscyld Balacuit, Premium Megastructures, Inc. project engineer, showcased the recent progress of the port expansion project. These updates are important in addressing the increasing need to assure the efficiency and expert management of the port operations.
September 2024 Celebrations
TMO Balingoan has slated a number of activities for important celebrations for the month of September which includes the Maritime Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) and the National Maritime Week and World Maritime Day. For the MANA Mo, a tree planting activity will be held on 14 Sep 2024 at Mandahilag, Talisayan and a coastal clean-up on 21 Sep 2024 at Bauk-bauk, Balingoan as part of the International Coastal Cleanup activity.
For the Maritime Week celebration and World Maritime Day, the TMO will highlight the importance of maritime safety and security; as such, the intends to conduct an Inter-Agency Operability and Capability Simulation Exercise which be comprised of a series of security, safety and emergency preparedness drills occurring at port and maritime settings. The primary purpose of the exercise is to ensure the preparedness of the stakeholders for the potential emergencies and dangers that might be experienced by the port/maritime industry. The event aims to test and put into practice the collaboration of the different agencies’ emergency response teams and their expertise in times of crisis. It is expected that the exercise will provide an opportunity to train and improve the protocols and preparedness of each unit to advance their respective capabilities.
The meeting of the PMMAC and PSAC last September 12 was successful as it manifested the port community’s collective goal to elevate the quality of the port and maritime operations of the Port of Balingoan. The TMO rides on this momentum to ensure continuity of the collaboration and involvement of all important sectors for the furtherance of public service.
