The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) joined the Webinar on Rainwater Harvesting in the Philippines: Policies and Best Practices, which was conducted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) Central Office through Zoom and Facebook live on August 9, 2024.
The webinar featured policies and best practices of the rainwater collection system highlighting water conservation and climate action. Moreover, one of the significant speakers, For. Mitzi S. Penaflorida, Supervising Environmental Management Specialist, emphasized the advantages of rainwater harvesting and shared insights on effective local practices in the Philippines. Her presentation covered how rainwater collection can contribute to water conservation and climate action within the region. Engr. Karl Angelo R. Porley from the Department of Public Works And Highways (DPWH) Central Office discussed about Water Wells, Rainwater Collectors, and Spring Development Act (R.A. 6716) & Rainwater Collection System (RWCS) Report, providing a detailed look at current policies and infrastructure related to rainwater harvesting. Accelerating The Implementation of Rainwater Harvesting to Improve Agricultural Productivity was also conversed by Engr. Alberto E. De Guzman from the Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), where his discussion included the DA Memorandum Circular No. 25, Series of 2021 which outlines strategies to accelerate the implementation of rainwater harvesting facilities to improve agricultural productivity.
Incorporating rainwater harvesting into our daily lives and infrastructure can lead to more resilient, sustainable communities and better manage the water resources available to us. Thus, attending webinars on rainwater harvesting can enhance attendees’ understanding, provide practical tools and knowledge, and connect us with a community dedicated to sustainable water management.
