Promoting a culture of safety and preparedness within the port community, PPA TMO Balingoan and PCBSI Port Terminal Management Corp. attended the Fire Safety Seminar held at the new Port Operations Building on 01 August 2024 which was facilitated by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Balingoan Fire Station.

 

Attended by 35 participants including dockworkers, security guards, utility workers and office personnel from both PPA and PCBSI-PTMC, the seminar provided vital information regarding the ways and processes in avoiding and mitigating fire, to wit:

 

  1. Identifying and avoiding fire-related risks. The resource person shared the common risks that might cause a fire outbreak including practical suggestions to avoid said risks.

 

  1. Preparations before the risk of fire. It was emphasized that it is an important step to prepare the necessary equipment in preventing & fighting against fire to secure the safety & preparedness of everyone even before an emergency.

 

  1. _Techniques in controlling fire. Participants have a practical learning in the effective use of fire extinguisher and some basic fire drills to address against fire emergencies.

 

  1. Promulgating an effective Evacuation Plan – The importance of a good planning for evacuation against fire related emergencies to ensure the safety of the members in cases of fire was likewise highlighted.

 

As the authorized cargohandling operator for the Port of Balingoan, PCBSI-PTMC endeavors to include in its manpower development program some trainings which aim to enhance capabilities and preparedness of its workers for the improvement of their services. This seminar provided opportunity for them to have hands-on training and to address their questions and get insights from fire experts to strengthen their knowledge and skills regarding fire safety. With shared knowledge acquired through this successful collaboration, the Port of Balingoan is poised to promote and maintain a safe, fire-conscious work environment.
