In celebration of Philippine Ports Authority’s (PPA) 50th Anniversary, the PPA Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) officially launched the “Adopt-a-Garden” (AAG) Program today, July 11, 2024 at the PMO MOC Building 2 Grounds, which was attended by PMO MOC personnel, as well as Philippine Coast Guard and OroPort representatives.
Through encouraging port users and PMO MOC personnel to adopt and maintain designated garden areas, the AAG program is a port environmental initiative that aims to improve the port’s carbon sink and the aesthetic value of unoccupied and idle lots inside the port grounds. Also, the creation of beautiful green spaces and the encouragement of environmental awareness and community stewardship are intended to support carbon sequestration efforts as well as the port’s general appeal and vibrancy.
The following are the proposed areas of the participants: PTC at the Amenity Parking Lot and all idle lots in Passenger Terminal Complex; Finance, ESD and OPM, PSD, OroPort, PCG at Greenbelt 2 area; Admin at Building 2 perimeter fence; and PPD at Exit Gate 4. A monthly assessment will be conducted by the AAG Environmental Committee following a criteria and shall culminate on Octobee 30, 2024.
The said program is in compliance with PPA Orange Book 2 Section 4.7.2 on the Greening Program. And also in continuing implementation of the Green Port Award System.
The “Adopt-a-Garden” program can yield significant positive outcomes in the port, ranging from environmental benefits and beautification to social cohesion and individual well-being. By mobilizing port users and PMO MOC personnel to actively care for and steward green spaces, this program can create lasting impacts that extend far beyond the physical garden itself.
PMO MOC is continuously commited and dedicated in fostering a greener environment and in making a lasting positive impact on our environment. Lastly, may this initiative inspire others to join in creating sustainable green spaces for future generations.
