PPA PMO MOC’s Pollution Control Team conducted its first meeting on May 20, 2024 at the Office of the Port Manager’s Conference Room to discuss the different functions and responsibilities of the Pollution Control Officers (PCO), progress and accomplishment reports, and other concerns from the different Terminal Management Offices.
The creation of PCO is in compliance with Article II, Section 7, “Designation of Pollution Control Officer,” of the PPA Orange Book on the Environmental Management in Ports (Book II) and to ensure the continuous implementagion of the Integrated Management System (IMS). The PCO Team is composed of Eleven (11) Regular Personnel and three (3) Contract of Service Support Staff.
Rules and restrictions outlined by the following statutes shall be implemented by the PCO Team: P.D. 1586, calling for the Establishment of an Environmental Managemeng System; R.A. 6969, an Act to Control Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes; R.A. 8749, an Act providing for a Comprehensive Air Pollution Control Policy; R.A. 9003, Ecologicial Solid Waste Managemeng Act; and R.A. 9275, the Philippine Clear Water Act. Along with initiating and carrying out environmental management-related actions, the PCO Team will also run an awareness campaign among stakeholders in PMO MOC’s Terminal Ports. The team will also be responsible for submitting the Compliance Monitoring Report (CMR), attested by the Port Manager, to the DENR each semester, as well as the Quarterly Self-Monitoring Reports (SMR) to the Port Manager.
In PMO MOC PCO Team , there are three (3) accredited PCOs in the said team, namely: Ms. Core Suan (Environmental Specialist), Mr. Ryan Nalzaro (Safety Officers), and Mr. Roel Madera (TMO Opol Manager). A Pollution Control training will soon be attended by the rest of the PCOs to gain accreditation as PCOs
The PCOs are committed to work together to help eliminate or reduce waste pollution to continuously achieve a green and clean nature.
