Balingoan, Misamis Oriental — Volunteers from across the community gathered with a common goal in mind: to make a positive impact on the environment through a massive clean-up drive. Armed with gloves, trash bags, brooms and packed with unwavering determination, individuals of all ages came together to tackle litter and waste in Lapinig Islet, Balingoan, Misamis Oriental on 27 April 2024 7AM.
Organized by LGU Balingoan in celebration of the Earth Day 2024, the activity was enthusiastically supported by the Philippine Ports Authority – TMO Balingoan, Philippine Coast Guard, Balingoan MPS, Balingoan College Teachers and Students, and Maritime Police, among others. It aimed to establish a sense of responsibility for protecting the environment and raise public awareness on the value of environmental stewardship for future generations. The sense of unity and accomplishment that pervaded the atmosphere—a mutual understanding that by banding together, we can make a difference in the fight against environmental degradation—was even more crucial.
The Earth Day clean-up drive had not only left a lasting impact on the physical landscape but had also planted the seeds of change in the hearts and minds of all the participants, particularly the students, that as they look towards the future, they do so with renewed determination to continue the efforts to protect and preserve our planet — one clean-up drive at a time.
The Philippine Ports Authority, through the PMO Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro and TMO Balingoan, is an ardent advocate of environmental protection and continuously fosters a green culture amongst its personnel and the port community to promote environmental sustainability.
